Good Bios Add That Splash Of Color You Need

When a potential customer explores your site, your bio is the last place they hit before they decide whether to hire you. Do it right, and you can up your sales substantially. Do it wrong, and you might lose people before they’re even in the door.

A couple of things clients (subconsciously) look for:

  • The person behind the product or service. People want to know who they’re hiring. Your credentials matter, but they need assurance that they can connect with you: that your presence – as well as your service – will add depth and joy to their lives.
  • Grammatical errors. This is important. And an easy mistake to make. A potential client wants to know she’s in good hands. If you’re mixing up your and you’re, she may doubt your abilities – no matter what your background. This is called an “actual word error”, which means spell-check won’t find it. You need a human being to double-check your work.

Sales Pages Make Your Business Sparkle

And shine. Writing them makes a lot of people uncomfortable, but they don’t have to be kitschy or bring to mind a greasy-haired car salesman in tweed. They can be authentic and true.

What customers want from your sales page:

  • Honesty. This is a no-brainer, of course. But I include it because it sets the precedent for all future business interactions. Tell the truth up front, in a clever way that gets people’s attention – and clues them into your candor; they will hire you again and again.
  • Enchantment. We all want to be delighted! We want WOW. And if you do it right, your customers are going to rave. They can’t help it. Even more powerful – if you can combine honesty and enchantment – that’s when the magic happens.
